I was 23 when I wrote in my journal:
“I’m going to be a millionaire by 30.”
I’d just finished watching The Secret—that feel-good documentary that basically makes the universe sound like a vending machine.
Insert thought. Receive wealth.
I believed it.
And looking back, I don’t think I was completely wrong. Your thoughts affect what you focus on, what you do, and eventually what you create.
There’s some truth buried in all that manifestation stuff.
But The Secret conveniently left something out.
The Lie Is in What They Don’t Say
Nobody is going to sell you a course called:
“Make a Plan, Do the Work, Stay Consistent for Years, and Eventually the Money Will Come.”
That’s not very exciting.
So they sell manifestation. Vision boards. 369 methods. High-vibration thinking. Whatever makes you believe you can skip the boring part and go straight to the reward.
Mindset matters.
But mindset without work doesn’t do shit.
The secret of The Secret is that it never actually tells you the secret.
So here it is.
There’s an Input Lag
Gamers know what input lag is.
You press a button, and there’s a delay before something happens on the screen.
Life works the same way, except the delay can be months or years.
You do the work today.
The result shows up later.
And if you don’t understand that, it’s easy to quit because you assume nothing is happening.
But I think the delay is a good thing.
Imagine if one workout gave you the body. One day of work gave you the business. One good decision made you rich.
What would any of it mean?
Thankfully, life doesn’t work that way.
It Takes Time for the 3D to Catch Up
Talent helps. Luck helps. Connections help.
But consistency is available to almost everybody.
And over enough time, it becomes pretty fucking difficult to compete with someone who refuses to stop.
The problem is that progress is hard to see while it’s happening. You train and your body looks the same. You save money and still don’t feel rich. You work on your business and it seems like nobody gives a shit.
Then one day, things start changing.
Not because something magical suddenly happened.
Because all those days when it looked like nothing was happening finally added up.
Sometimes I also think the universe makes you wait because you’re not ready for what you’re asking for yet.
Which brings me to Earth School.
Earth School Has a Grading System
I like to think of life as a school.
Every workout I don’t skip. Every dollar I don’t waste. Every hour I spend building instead of screwing around. Every time life kicks my ass and I get back up.
Gold star. Gold star. Gold star.
Call the teacher whatever you want. God. The universe. Biology. The market. Cause and effect.
I don’t really care.
I just know that doing the right things consistently tends to produce better results than sitting around wishing for them.
Your body keeps score. Your bank account keeps score. Your skills keep score. Your business keeps score.
Wishful thinking doesn’t.
So I keep collecting gold stars.
Maybe You Aren’t Ready Yet
I still believe in manifestation.
I just don’t believe you can sit on your couch, think about a Lamborghini for six months, and expect the universe to park one outside.
There’s another question I’d rather ask:
If I got everything I wanted tomorrow, would I actually be ready for it?
The money. The business. The body. The freedom.
Could I handle it?
Could I keep it?
Maybe some things haven’t happened yet because they were never meant for me.
Or maybe:
I’m just not ready yet.
So instead of obsessing over when I’m going to get what I want, I try to make myself more prepared for it.
Make the plan. Do the work. Collect the gold stars.
And when it looks like nothing is happening, remember the input lag.
The 3D is still catching up.
