Nothing Matters More Than Your Tan (Obviously)

Okay, I’ll admit – I’m trolling with this title. But stick with me, because I’m dead serious about this topic.

My self-confidence is directly tied to how I feel about my appearance. And when I look good, I perform better. In business, in conversations, on camera – all of it.

When I’m Pale, Everything Suffers

When I’m super white, I look sickly. I don’t want to go out in public. I avoid the camera. I shrink.

On top of that, being pasty seems to trigger body acne for me – big, red, swollen pimples on my shoulders, upper arms, and back. I eat clean. I shower every day. And yet, out of nowhere, my skin looks like it’s staging a revolt. I don’t fully understand it, but I know it destroys my confidence every single time.

And here’s the thing about confidence – when it dies, so does your ability to do good business.

That’s not me being dramatic. That’s just the truth.

Compliments Are Fuel

Have you ever come back from a beach trip in the dead of winter with a golden tan? I have. And I remember exactly how it felt when people started noticing.

Compliments light something up inside you.

Here’s a simple scenario. You run into a friend you haven’t seen in a few months. Which greeting would you rather hear?

“Hey, are you okay? You look really pale.”

Or –

“Did you go somewhere? Your skin is glowing, man.”

One puts you on the defensive. The other opens a door.

Now imagine you respond to the second one like this: “Yeah, I just got back from Cancun a few days ago. I’ve been grinding hard and decided to actually reward myself for once. Just laid by the pool and recharged.”

Almost guaranteed, they ask what kind of work you do.

That’s free advertising. All because you looked healthy enough to spark curiosity.

Why I Skip the Beach and Use a Tanning Bed

I love the beach. I genuinely do. But I have a hard time being there without losing my mind a little.

When I’m not moving toward my goals, I get restless. I can’t fully relax knowing I could be doing something productive. And the beach also puts me in situations where I’m way more likely to blow my diet.

Tanning beds solve all of that.

For a few dollars, I can get a great tan without breaking my routine, dropping several hundred bucks on flights and hotels, or wrestling with airport chaos. Twelve minutes, twice a week. That’s it.

The results? Clearer skin, more defined-looking muscles, and the illusion of whiter teeth. Every single one of those things stacks onto my confidence.

Is the sun a better and safer option? Obviously. No argument there. But when the sun isn’t available, a tanning bed gets the job done.

Do Whatever It Takes to Feel Confident

Here’s what this whole thing really comes down to:

Confidence isn’t some soft, feel-good concept. It’s a competitive advantage. It affects how you carry yourself in a room, how you speak on a sales call, how people perceive you before you even open your mouth.

So if tanning helps you feel more confident – do it. If it’s hitting the gym, upgrading your wardrobe, fixing your sleep, or getting a better haircut – do that too.

I care too much about the brand I’m building not to take this stuff seriously. Whatever gives you an edge, use it.

Don’t wait until you feel ready to show up. Do the things that make you feel ready – and then show up.
